Trip to Ooty
When I arrived in Coimbatore, one and only thought I had was to visit Ooty and of course I went there. so here is a small description. We took taxi from Coimatore to Ooty (80 km to Coimbatore) and choose the way to Ooty via Coonoor; While coming back choose another route Ooty to Kotagiri and then Coimbatore.
I enjoyed both the routes but more biased towards Kotagiri route as it provides me lots of wildlife sightings and the cloudy weather. I had this small vacation after 5 months of hard work after completing my PhD; so I gasp every second of my journey. My views for Ooty are:
Ooty another name of 'Udhagamandalam' is famous for tea plantation, home made chocolate and breath taking views. It is one of the most popular tourist resorts in southern India. Nilgiris or "Blue Mountains" is a land of picturesque picnic spots. It is situated at an altitude of 2,240 meters above sea level.
A marvellous package of vegetation is found in this area starting from Coonoor to Ooty to Kotagiri. Lofty mountains, dense forest, grasslands and miles & miles of tea plantations attracts the passengers.
Places of Interests
Botanical garden: Very well maintained lawns of the numerous of species of flowers and plants but the main attraction of the garden is fossilised tree trunk, which are approx 20 million years old.
Rose Garden: A beautiful land atop the hill, the Rose Garden welcome its guests with its more than 1900 variety of roses. Beautiful path, trimmed lawn and others flowers enhance the beauty of the place. One of the highlight of the park is the rose sculpted pathway, which in my view is rather unique.
Dodda Betta: It is the highest peak in the Nilgiri Hills. And one can have the enchanting view of entire city and places surround.
Ooty Lake: This artificial lake, built approx 200 years ago, is surrounded by light vegetation and small hills, boating is easily available.
Museum: Chocolate and Tea museum are super engaging, person should visit both or either of them, to learn more about the strength of the Ooty city.
An added attraction for the tourists is the mountain train journey, commences from Kallar, near Mettupalayam and make its way through many curves. We took the Taxi so this information is based on others opinion.
Don't forget to buy the homemade chocolates, they may range from 100 to 350 for 250 grams and comes in all the flavours, from dark to milk one. Purchase a packet of Tea too, it turned out to be my best decision... :)
I'll update more about PhD and other things, till then take care and thanks for reading :) I wrote this post in a hurry so ask anything in comments, if I missed to write here..
Mugdha
Nice post also want to add one more point that there would be new garden near Dodda Betta.
